Duo Whittern/See

Duo Whittern/See (Ronan Whittern, bassoon, and Emi See, piano) are dedicated to expanding and creating new works for the underexplored combination of bassoon and piano. As international musicians based in Germany, they aim to bring diverse cultural perspectives into dialogue with local audiences while strengthening their international network of composers. They are currently working with four composers on a newly commissioned program, “CHAMBERS” to be premiered in 2027.
CHAMBERS is the inaugural project of Duo Whittern/See, an Essen-based bassoon and piano duo formed in 2025. Launching in 2026, the project will commission four 10 minute works for bassoon and piano from international composers: Elnaz Seyedi (Germany-based Iranian composer), Henry McPherson (Manchester-based British composer), Jagyeong Ryu (Germany-based South Korean composer), and Matthew Grouse (Denmark-based British composer). Each composer will develop their work through a process of intensive collaboration with the performers, including a multi-day residency in Essen, culminating in a premiere performance in Germany at o-ton.koeln (Cologne) with subsequent performances planned in England and Denmark.
